IRONWOOD - The sixth annual Sisu Ski Fest kicks off this week, featuring a variety of events.
Friday features registration and bib pick-up from 4 to 10 p.m. for race participants at the Ironwood Memorial Building.
A ski expo will also take place from 4 to 10 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at the Memorial Building.
Saturday features a full day of racing, including the 42 kilometer Sisu Marathon, beginning at 8:30 a.m., and the 21K Heikki Lunta Half Marathon beginning at 11 a.m., both at ABR Ski Trails in Erwin Township.
The 3K and 5K Junior Sisu races begin at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at Miners Memorial Heritage Park in Ironwood.
For non-racers, the annual Taste and Tour is taking place at Norrie Park, starting at 1 p.m. Local restaurants and bars are participating in the event, highlighting a variety of food choices. Only 200 participants can attend the event, so anyone interested in asked to register online.
Food will be featured for racers at the Memorial Building from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday's events conclude with a free performance by Conga Se Menne at the Historic Ironwood Theatre starting at 7 p.m.
On Sunday, people can participate in the 2K, 5K and 10K snowshoe event at Miners Memorial Heritage Park at 10:30 a.m. There will also be an "on-snow" demonstration at Wolverine Ski Trails in Ironwood Township.
Each year, local schools also participate in the 2K Lapset Loppet event at ABR Ski Trails in Erwin Township. However, because of cold temperatures in past year, causing the event to be delayed or canceled, race organizers decided to move the event to March 4.
