MINOCQUA, Wis. - Thomas T. Thompson, 88, of Hurley, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, in Minocqua ,.
He was born April 9, 1926, in Erwin Township, son of the late Theodore and Jennie (Niemi) Thompson. He was a graduate of the Lincoln High School in Hurley.
Tom had worked in numerous positions as an equipment operator.
On April 10, 1948, he was united in marriage with Doris L. Jenkin at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Ironwood by Father Moriarty. She preceded him in death on Nov. 9, 2014.
Tom was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Force. He was a member of the Hurley American Legion Post #58. He was also a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ironwood.
He is survived by one son, Bill (Linda) Thompson, of Hurley; two daughters, Clara (Bruce) Maki, of Oma, and Kim (Dan) Paris, of Gile; seven grandchildren, Tom, Jason and Brady Thompson, Lana Maki, Bryce Paris and Kyle and Brian Thompson; and ten great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, Tom was preceded in death by two sons, Fred Thompson in 1984, and David Thompson in 1994; two brothers, David and Charles Thompson; and one sister, Ethel Klumb.
Cremation has taken place at the Range Crematory in Hurley. A memorial service will be held Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the Ketola-Burla Funeral Home in Ironwood. Rev. Kurt Kovanen will officiate. The family will receive friends from 10: a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted by the Hurley VFW Post # 1580 and American Legion Post #58 Honor Guard. Spring inurnment will be in the Hurley Cemetery.
