Burchell wins two races at Blackjack

Ironwood's Robert Burchell won the slalom and giant slalom at Monday's Theron Peterson Memorial high school ski event at Blackjack Ski Resort.

Teammate Isaac Aukee took second in the slalom and Ironwood's Riley Jarocki was runner-up in the giant slalom. The Ski Devils' Rico Braucher was third in the GS.

Ironwood beat Kingsford in both the slalom and giant slalom.

Houghton's Jenna Stein swept the girls races. Ironwood's Leah Braucher was runner-up in the giant slalom. She was a team-high fifth in slalom.

The Houghton girls were first in slalom and GS.

The meet was postponed from last week due to the bitter cold and it was freezing Monday also.

"Marquette couldn't send a team because they had finals, so the field wasn't as large as it normally is," Ironwood coach Liz Constantini said. "Leah Braucher skied well on the girls side and I thought Robert Burchell put together two solid runs in both events."

Ironwood goes to Houghton on Jan. 23.
