HURLEY - Solon Springs dealt Hurley a homecoming heartbreaker, winning 62-60 in overtime Friday night.
"We battled," Hurley coach Mike Swartz said. "I just feel bad for my guys. They've been working hard, doing things the right way, you just hope it'll turn around."
Hurley led what was a close contest throughout 51-48 in the final minute.
The Midgets' Jake Tenlen missed the front end of a 1-and-1. Solon Springs missed a triple try and Hurley got the rebound. Mitchell Maki had the ball knocked away while he was coming upcourt and as he made a play to get the ball back, he was called for a foul.
Solon Springs missed the free throw, but Caleb Hedberg grabbed the board and put in back in. He was fouled, too, and he made the free throw to tie it with 13.6 seconds left.
Hurley's James Sukanen missed a contested 3 and the game went to overtime.
Maki fouled out in overtime after a very good fourth quarter, but the Midgets had a chance to win it in overtime also.
Colton Dowd's corner 3 didn't fall. The step-in attempt was a good look. Sukanen got the offensive rebound and got off a good shot despite rushing when he probably didn't have to.
"They played their tails off," Swartz said. "We had opportunities to win the game."
Sukanen led Hurley with 23 points, Maki scored 17 and Tenlen had 11.
Hurley was solid on the offensive glass, it played the half-court trap well and Jake Tenlen played a terrific game, Swartz said.
Logan Long led Solon Springs with 19 points.
Hurley (4-8, 3-4) goes to Bayfield Tuesday.
