NORTHVILLE, Mich. - Henry R. Tiilika, age 88, of Northville, passed away January 31, 2015. He was born August 3, 1926 in Ironwood; son of Otto and Ellen (nee Justusson) Tiilikka.
Henry proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. After serving in the Army, Henry received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Michigan Tech.
He was united in marriage to the love of his life Shirley Hill on March 19, 1948; they spent 64 devoted years together until her death in 2012.
Henry worked for the Wayne County Road Commission; retiring at the age of 55. He enjoyed being a snowbird; for over 20 years he wintered in Venice, Fla. He enjoyed traveling, bowling, fishing, and singing in a men's choir in Florida. He was an avid sports fan; he especially rooted for the Detroit Redwings and the MSU Spartans. He was an active member and past commander of the VFW Post 4012 and a member of the VFW State Honor Guard.
Henry is survived by his children Peggy Carlson, Bonnie Tiilikka, Joanne Tiilikka, Norman Tiilikka and Lynn (Robert) Setter; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley; his son, Larry Tiilikka; and his son-in-law, Gerald Brouckaert.
