Betty D. Zimmer

ONTONAGON, Mich. — Betty D. Zimmer, 92, of Ontonagon, passed away on Jan. 22, 2015, at Aspirus Long Term Care Facility in Ontonagon. She was born April 9, 1922, in Ontonagon, daughter of the late James and Anna (Chenette) Zimmer.

She graduated from Ontonagon High School with the class of 1940. After graduation, she attended the St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Ashland, Wis., graduating in 1944 as a registered nurse. She was employed at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Milwaukee for 33 years, retiring in 1977. She then returned to Ontonagon where she spent her remaining years.  She gave generously of her time helping many organizations and charities.

Betty is survived by a sister, Darline Roden, Milwaukee;  sisters-in-law, Ruth Zimmer, Ontonagon, and Maxine Zimmer, Kalamazoo; along with numerous nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers Francis (Fritz), Vernon, Jay and Gene Zimmer.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, June 26, 201,5 at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Ontonagon with Fr. Michael Jacobus, celebrant. The family will receive relatives and friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass. 

Those wishing to express sympathy may direct memorials to The Ontonagon County Cancer Society or The Holy Family Catholic Church. The Cane Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
