WAKEFIELD - Wakefield-Marenisco wrapped up the Porcupine Mountain Conference title outright with a 66-31 victory over Ewen-Trout Creek Monday night.
It was W-M's first PMC title since 2004. The Cardinals also won a share of the Indianhead East Division with Hurley.
"We're excited about that," W-M coach Pete Yon said. "Hopefully we can carry some of this momentum into the tournament."
The Cardinals came out with good intensity and led 40-18 at halftime on parents' night in their last home game of the season.
"We really played well," Yon said. "It was a really good team effort. Everybody got involved, everybody scored. We probably ran the floor the best tonight that we did all year."
Hallee Yon led W-M with 14 points. Darienne Korpi scored 13 and Lauren Grace had 12.
"Lauren Grace had a big night rebounding, played good defense inside, really kept everything outside for them," Yon said. "Heather Hemming is playing a couple different roles for us right now and is doing well."
Molly Niemi led E-TC with 16 points despite picking up her fourth foul in the first half.
"That probably took them out of their game a little bit," Yon said.
W-M (16-3, 5-0) goes to Watersmeet tonight to end the regular season. E-TC (1-16, 0-5) hosts Dollar Bay Thursday.
