Plea to elected officials: Just do your job

To the Editor:

Every elected member of congress, all representatives and senators, asked the electors of this country for their individual job. They made promises, spent millions of dollars and large amounts of time to convince us they were prepared for those jobs and had earned them. After they were elected and took the oath of office, they descended on Washington, D.C. to prove they deserved our faith and votes.

To all those who skipped today’s speech by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu because they preferred to act like high school seniors rather than portray that they might actually be statesmen, be aware there are many voters checking who carried out their duties and attended that speech. Listening on the radio or saying you did, does not count. You are paid by the voters who also are taxpayers and we expect you to do your jobs. It matters not if you agree or disagree with what you are viewing, it is where you belong. It is the job you asked for and took an oath to perform.

Please do not come to class with a doctor’s excuse or one written by your mother, they do not cut the mustard. The displays of immaturity we see in D. C. right now are going to cause big problems for our country. Let’s all just skip everything we don’t like or disagree with and surely they will just go away. Good luck with that idea. Our leaders need to stop whining and get serious about a serious state of affairs. In the United States of America we allow dissenting voices to be heard. Remember that: You are being allowed to speak and you should have shown up and carried through on your oath to do your job.

It’s called being responsible and respectful and dependable and American.
