SALINE, Mich. — Dorothy L. Kangas, 95, of Saline, formerly of Ironwood Township, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2015, at the Saline Evangelical Home in Saline. She was born Nov. 28, 1919, in Waltz, the daughter of David and Augusta (Ziemann) Schaefer.
On Sept. 20, 1946, in Ann Arbor, she married Matthew Kangas and he preceded her in death on June 15, 2006. Dorothy graduated from Saline High School with the Class of 1938 and was confirmed at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Saline.
During her lifetime, she was a stay-at-home mom who was always there for her boys. In her spare time she loved completing crossword and jigsaw puzzles.
Survivors include her sons, Gary (Jo) Kangas of Saline, and Glenn (Christine) Kangas of Clinton; brother, Harold (Shirley) Schaefer of Arizona; sister, Viola Jones of Oregon; and sister-in-law, Charlotte Schaefer of Vermont. Other survivors include numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, brothers Melvin and David Schaefer, and sisters Mildred Schaefer and Marilyn Jaeger.
Funeral services will take place on Saturday, March 7, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the Ketola-Burla Funeral Home in Ironwood, with Rev. Norman E. Kangas officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at the Sunset Acres Cemetery at a later date.
