WAUSAU, Wis. — Ruth Ann Svoke, 65, of Ironwood, Mich., went to be with her Savior on Saturday, March 15, 2015, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
She was born May 1, 1949, at Grand View Hospital, Ironwood to Tauno and Doris (Rundell) Stengard. She graduated from A.D. Johnston High School in 1967.
On December 2, 1967, she married Dennis Svoke Sr., at St. Ambrose Church, Ironwood. They resided in New Jersey and Detroit before returning to Ironwood to make their home. She worked at Powderhorn Mountain and Copp’s Food Store and was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish.
Ruth enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Granny Moo was present at nearly all their extracurricular activities. She especially enjoyed preparing for the holidays with them; decorating for Christmas, making and decorating cookies, dying Easter eggs, and making various holiday crafts. Ruth enjoyed cooking, baking, reading and was a skilled crafter. She had a passion for knitting, sewing and crocheting. Ruth was a generous soul and always put others before herself. She will be missed immensely by her family and many friends.
She is survived by her husband, Dennis Sr .; sons, Dennis Jr. (Lisa) Svoke, of Ironwood, and Jason (Jade) Svoke, of Montreal; grandchildren, Lexi, Sophie, Samantha, Sydney and Christian; brother-in-law, Jack “Butch” (Elvira) Svoke; sister-in-law, Darleen Stengard; and multiple nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Dale Stengard; sister, Charlene Bennetts; and a nephew, Jay Bennetts.
Friends and family are invited to a celebration of life luncheon Saturday, March 21 from noon to 2 p.m. in the Upper Level of the Lindquist Center at Gogebic Community College.
