Violet A. Stampone

IRONWOOD, Mich. — Violet “Vi” A. Stampone, 91, of Ironwood, died peacefully Saturday, April 4, 2015, at Aspirus Grand View Hospital in Ironwood, with her loving son, Daniel, by her side.

The former Violet Luoma was born Feb. 10, 1924, in Erwin Township, Ironwood, daughter of the late Oscar and Miina (Nelmark) Luoma, and attended K.P. Silberg Grade School and Luther L. Wright High School.

She was married to Joseph C. Stampone on July 26, 1947, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Ironwood by the late Monsignor J.B. Moriarity. Joe preceded her in death on March 14, 1990.

Vi was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood. She enjoyed flower gardening and collecting stuffed bears and took great pride in her snow shoveling abilities at her Birch Street home, with the blacktop on her driveway always meticulously scraped clean and showing through. She will be deeply missed by her family.

Surviving are her son, Daniel, Ironwood; two daughters, Sharon Stampone, Sarasota, Fla., and Jo Anne (Roger) Greil, Sault Ste. Marie; a grandson, Garrett Greil, Scottsdale, Ariz .; three great-grandsons, Devin, Julian and Lennon Greil; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, Vi was preceded in death by stepbrothers, John, Oscar, Oliver and Eugene Peltonen; stepsisters, Sylvia Anderson and Elsie Erickson; and sisters-in-law, Mary Harma and Antoinette Pfieffer.

Out of respect for her wishes, cremation has taken place.

Family services and interment will be private.
