ron County's registered voters turned out to the polls for Tuesday's election at 33 percent - almost double the state average for voting-age adults across Wisconsin.
According to an Associated Press report, just over 18 percent of the state's voting-age population participated in the election. State officials had predicted a 20 percent turnout.
The town of Mercer had the highest voter turnout in the county with 57 percent of the 1,198 registered voters casting ballots, with the town of Anderson coming in a close second with 53 percent of the town's 60 registered voters participating in the election.
The city of Hurley and town of Carey - 857 and 126 registered voters respectively - had the two lowest percentages of voter participation with 17 percent of registered voters turning out to the polls.
The town of Saxon had a 46 percent voter turnout rate, the town of Knight had 33 percent turnout, the town of Oma had 27 percent, the town of Pence had 20 percent, the town of Gurney and the city of Montreal both had a rate of 19 percent and Kimball had 18 percent of registered voters cast ballots.
With residents allowed to register to vote on election day, Iron County had 4,263 registered voters as of Wednesday.
