HURLEY, Wis. — Eleanor A. Koval, 97, of Ironwood, died Sunday, April 19, 2015, in Hurley.
She was born Oct. 5, 1917 in Iron Belt, daughter of the late John and Anna (Helmes) Hakala. She attended Iron Belt schools.
Her husband, Walter Koval, preceded her in death on June 18, 1991. She was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church of Ironwood.
She is survived by two daughters, Carol Koval of Gile, and Karen Koval of Ironwood; three grandchildren, Brian (Rhonda) Tollstam of Burlington, Wis., Bruce Tollstam of Ironwood, and Lauren (Brian) Koval of Eveleth, Minn .; and five great-grandchildren, Bryce, Blaine and Breanna Tollstam, all of Burlington, Kaitlyn Tollstam of Steamboat Springs, Colo., and Andrew Coughlin of Eveleth.
In addition to her husband and parents, Eleanor was preceded in death by five brothers, Aaron, Thorval, Arvo, Oliver and Onni Hakala; and two sisters, Fannie Mandelin and Jennie Laine.
Cremation has taken place at the Range Crematory in Hurley.
A celebration of Eleanor’s life will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2015, at 2 p.m. at the Ketola-Burla Funeral Home in Ironwood. Rev. Jeffrey A. Ahonen will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Inurnment will be in the Hillside Cemetery in Iron Belt.
