WAUSAU, Wis.- Carolyn M. Mukavtz, 89, a former longtime Ironwood, Mich. resident, died peacefully Monday, April 20, 2015, at Wausau Manor in Wausau, with her loving family by her side.
The former Carolyn Ihlenfeldt was born March 8, 1926, in Mellen, daughter of the late George and Katherine (Neibauer) Ihlenfeldt. She attended Mellen Grade School, Washington Elementary School and Willard D. Purdy High School in Marshfield, and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in Ironwood with the Class of 1944. She then attended St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in Marshfield and became a licensed practical nurse.
Carolyn was employed as a nurse at Grand View Hospital in Ironwood from 1956 to 1987 and at Villa Home Health in Hurley from 1988 to 1990. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and volunteered at the Ironwood Historical Society. She enjoyed spending time with her former co-workers.
She was married to Lawrence J. "Mucka" Mukavtz on Nov. 13, 1949, at St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ironwood by the Rev. Hanser . Lawrence preceded her in death on Aug. 13, 1995.
Surviving are her son , Larry (Mary Lynn), of Wausau; two grandchildren, John (Emily) Mukavtz and Jessica Zoromski (Dave Stanley), both of Wausau; a great-grandson, Hunter Zoromski; two brothers, Jim (Karen) Ihlenfeldt, Green Bay, and Donald Ihlenfeldt (Pat), Minneapolis; a sister, Georgeann "Murphy" (Ken) Baumann, Green Bay; sisters-in-law, Edvina Ihlenfeldt and Carmen Ihlenfeldt, both of Minneapolis; and numerous nieces and nephews whose visits she always looked forward to.
Besides her parents and husband, Carolyn was predeceased by a son, Billy, in 1956; brother, William Ihlenfeldt; and sister, Elsie Sellhausen.
Out of respect for her wishes, cremation has taken place.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 6, 2015, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at the McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, 305 N. Lowell St. in Ironwood, with the Rev. Bill Jacobson officiating.
Committal will follow at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood.
