Vietnam Veterans of America hold annual steak dinner

HURLEY - The smell of meat on the grill wafted through the parking lot of the Iron County Memorial Building on Saturday as the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 529 held its 25th annual steak dinner.

The chapter uses the money raised from the annual event for a number of causes, including scholarships, a Christmas toy drive, donations to the Iron County 4-H summer camp and helping others in need of funds, according to the chapter's treasurer, Arvid Sivula.

Despite being up against several conflicting events, including three area proms, turnout was strong and organizers hoped it would near the 400 they planned for. No attendance numbers were immediately available.

Steaks and sides were served from 4 to 8 p.m., with music and entertainment running until midnight.

Diners were entertained by several bands, including Marty's Goldenaires, and were also able participate in raffles for door prizes that were donated by local businesses.
