After a raucous start to winter 2014-’15, April in Ironwood bowed out rather mildly.
In fact, the average temperature of 39.8 degrees was just above the 110-year average of 39.3 and the 13 inches of snow was just 1.6 inches more than normal.
April precipitation of 2.43 inches was .21 inch below average, according to monthly statistics released by Kevin Crupi of the National Weather Service office in Marquette.
The high temperature for the month in Ironwood was 71 on April 12, while the low dipped down to 16 on April 23.
No new daily or monthly records were established for Ironwood.
Crupi said much of the Upper Peninsula experienced around average temperatures, but Munising was 3 degrees below average.
Other U.P. highlights included:
—The highest reported temperature was 76 at Pelkie in Baraga County and Jacobsville in Houghton County on April 12 and Iron Mountain on April 17.
—The low was 3 near Newberry on April 4.
—The highest average temperature was 41.8 at Iron Mountain.
—The lowest average temperature was 35.6 at Herman in Baraga County.
—The greatest monthly snowfall was 17.3 inches at Herman.
—The lowest was 1 inch at Manistique.
—Greatest snow depth was 41 inches near Grand Marais in Alger County on April 1.
