IRONWOOD - The Ironwood K-6 students gathered at Longyear Field Monday for the school's annual day of outdoor activities, including a fun run fundraiser, sponsored by the school's parent-teacher organization.
Prior to the fun run, which consisted of students running a lap on the field's track, the students gathered pledged donations with the money going toward the purchase of new playground equipment for the school.
Prior to the run, the students posed for a group picture - the grades were divided into red, white or blue shirts for the picture - and enjoyed a performance by the school's juggling group.
Students also got to enjoy refreshments including oranges, popcorn and cotton candy following the run. For the rest of the day, the students could choose between a number of planned activities or just playing with their friends.
PTO President Jessica Vaughn praised the turnout, saying it matched the weather, and thanked the volunteers who helped with the event.
"It's a very nice turnout, a very nice day," Vaughn said.
Ironwood Elementary School Principal Nick Steinmetz echoed Vaughn's sentiment about how nice the event was.
"(The day) was a good end-of-the-year celebration ... it gets the teachers out doing something different with their students," Steinmetz said. "It's just such a great capstone to a wonderful year."
