IRONWOOD - Ironwood's youngest students celebrated the end of the school year with a special reward during recess on Tuesday as they got to tie District Superintendent Tim Kolesar to the playground equipment with streamers as a reward for good behavior.
The brainchild of the district's playground monitors, the kindergarten through second graders each repeated the event while Kolesar played along, pleading for mercy before breaking free of the bonds at the end of each recess.
Following Kolesar's successful break for freedom, the students got freeze pops and popcorn before returning to class.
The event was a culmination of a Friday rewards program the district has instituted, according to monitor Jamie Garrison.
The kids "have to have something to look forward to," and the rewards provided that, giving the students a goal for their good behavior, Garrison said.
