A RARE pibald deer was spotted along Wisconsin 13 between Mellen and Ashland, Wis., recently by frequent Daily Globe photo contributor Gary Jackson, of Ironwood. The piebald condition is an inherited genetic trait, ranging from a very slight amount of white to an almost totally white coat. Unlike albino deer, piebalds have brown eyes and black hooves. The condition occurs in less than 1 percent of the deer population.
