Jean L. Culligan

ASHLAND, Wis. - Jean L. Culligan, 76, of Ashland, passed away on Monday, June 1, 2015, at Memorial Medical Center in Ashland.

She was born Jan. 2, 1939, in Painesdale, Mich., the daughter of Clarence and Lucille (Luoto) Pakkala.

Jean attended A.D. Johnston High School in Bessemer, Mich., and Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College in Ashland, where she studied to be an office assistant. Jean enjoyed gardening, reading, sewing, shopping and especially enjoyed her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Daniel, of Ashland; her children, Cliff (Sheila) Saari, of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, Craig (Tina) Saari, Chris (Betty) Saari, LuAnne (Pat Hunt) Saari, Stephanie (Martin) Eder, Jennifer (Jeff Jones) Saari-Osmak, and Justin (Ann) Saari, all of Ashland; two step-children, Carrie (Ken Nelson) Nelson of Superior and Daryl Culligan of Ashland; 14 grandchildren, Samantha, Lucas, Allison, Kirby, Ryan, Ethan, Hayley, Kaitlyn, Alec, Maxwell, Adelyn, Ryan, Jeanie (Chris) and Candace; two great-grandchildren, Colton and Evan; her brother, Allen (Joyce) Pakkala, of Wakefield, Mich .; and her brother-in-law, Ken Brekke, of Felch, Mich.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Irene Brekke.

The memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 12, 2015, at Saron Lutheran Church in Ashland, with Pastor Paul Simmons officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
