BESSEMER - The sun was out for the sixth annual Go Ride R Range Ride on Saturday.
Beginning in Bessemer's Bluff Valley Park, the roughly 50 cyclists who participated biked to Rigoni's Bar and back to the park, according to organizer Jim Mildren, a route of roughly 20 miles.
"The day was perfect," Mildren said.
Following the completion of the ride, the group enjoyed entertainment provided by the band Sugar and Spice, who played a number of popular country songs.
It was especially fitting that the ride took place on Saturday, Mildren said, the day was National Trail Day.
"It was nice, on National Trail Day, to schedule (the ride)," said Mildren, adding that Gov. Rick Snyder had said he hoped Michigan residents would be "pumping up their bike tires" and that was exactly what the group was doing.
The ride raises funds for future trail development in the area, Mildren said.
"The most important thing, beside having fun with fellow bikers, is that our community has events (like the GRRR) that make living here fun," Mildren said, noting that there were several bike rides through the region this summer.
