Gael V. Anderson

IRONWOOD, Mich. - Our beloved mother, Gael V. Anderson, 89, of Ironwood, went to be with her loving husband "Bud" on Friday, June 12, 2015, following a lengthy battle with cancer, with her loving family by her side.

The former Gael Guthrie was born Nov. 3, 1925, in Ironwood, daughter of the late Ronald and Evelyn (Morrill) Guthrie, and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School with the Class of 1943. She worked in various jobs over the years, including Michigan Bell Telephone, Jackie's Fabrics, Westgate Nursing, Rehabilitation and Assisted Living Community and the Daily Globe. She also volunteered at many places and was a Boy Scout den mother for many years. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Ironwood.

Gael was especially fond of sewing and has made many wedding dresses and quilts over the years. She also had a great love for animals and her house is where many strays came and never left. A prime example is her dog, Sadie, who never left her side during her illness.

Surviving are three sons, Erick, Omaha, Neb .; Jon, Ironwood, and Steve "Bud Man" (Mary), Hurley, Wis .; eight grandchildren, Brooke (John) Holbert, Marquette, Sarah (Christopher Kelly) Anderson, Sam Anderson and Christine Anderson, all of Omaha; Gabe Anderson, North Dakota, Tara Brown, Seattle, Wash., Lauren Anderson, Green Bay, Wis., and Miranda Anderson, Hurley; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Marian (Tom) Wasley, Ironwood, brother-in-law, Phillip (Celestine) Anderson, Morristown, N.J., and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Douglas 'Bud" Anderson, in 2011; and a sister, Jean Guthrie, in 2013.

Honoring Gael's wishes, cremation has taken place.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, June 25, at 1 p.m., at Riverside Cemetery in Ironwood, with Pastor Kurt Kovanen officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Regional Hospice Services, 100 S. Mill St., Bessemer, MI 49911.
