Helen E. (McGeshick) Smith

WATERSMEET, Mich. - Helen E. (McGeshick) Smith, 80, started her journey on Thursday, June 18, 2015, at home, surrounded by family. Helen was born on May 31, 1935, at home at the Lac Vieux Desert Village.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Josephine McGeshick; her husband, Raymond Smith Sr., from Mole Lake, Wis .; brother, Archie McGeshick Sr .; sisters, Jeanette and Lucille McGeshick; and longtime companion, Franklin "Bum" Hazen.

She loved visiting with her brothers, Richard (Patricia) McGeshick Sr., John "Doe" (Judy) McGeshick, Thomas (Susan) McGeshick Sr., and Daniel McGeshick; and sisters, Ruth (Ira Sr.) Antone, Beatrice (William) Baily and Joyce (Michael Sr.) Hazen.

Her number one priority was her children, Johnson (Susan) McGeshick, of Watersmeet, Joan Smith (Paul) McCallum, of Scandia, Minn., June (Jeffrey Saad) Smith, Raymond Smith Jr., Henry K. (Shawnee Tolonen) Smith, Evan G. Smith and John (Tina) Lee, of L'Anse. Helen has 23 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a caregiver niece, JoAnn Douyette, and other countless nieces and nephews.

Helen's favorite things to do were gardening, attending family gatherings, traveling, watching WWE on TV, reading, socializing, and teasing her little buddy, Elvis, our Yorkshire Terrier.

Services will be held at Lakeside Memorial Chapel in Wakefield, with viewing on Monday, June 22, from 4 to 6 p.m. Visitation will be at 1:30 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watersmeet on Tuesday, June 23. Following the Mass there will be Food and Drumming at the Round House at the Lac Vieux Desert Old Indian Village, where she will arrive at her final resting spot near family.
