KIMBALL, Wis. - Richard Louis "Dick" Dalpiaz, 63, of Kimball, died Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at home.
He was born April 1, 1952, in Ironwood, Mich., son of the late Joseph Eugene and Patricia Betty (Loo) Dalpiaz, and attended Ironwood schools and Luther L. Wright High School. He then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and proudly served a tour of combat duty in Vietnam, where he received the Good Conduct Medal, Rifle Marksman Badge and Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Battle Star. He was honorably discharged as a Lance Corporal on Dec. 7, 1971.
Following his discharge, Dick returned to the area where he was self-employed as a residential and commercial painter for many years. He was a member and current president of Vietnam Veterans of America, Gogebic-Iron Range Chapter 529 and was active in all of their activities, Mercer Loon Party and Steak Feed to name a few. He enjoyed his Grappa.
On Aug. 30, 1986, he married the former Barbara Brannen in Ironwood. She preceded him in death on Feb. 26, 2010.
Surviving are a daughter, Christina Kutz, Hurley; three grandchildren, John Olkonen, and Jace and Jaylee Kutz; a brother, Bill (Nancy), Mercer; and two sisters, Susan (Paul) Berger, Charlotte, Mich., and Nancy Dalpiaz, Iron Belt.
Besides his parents and wife, he was predeceased by three brothers,Robert, Donald and Joseph.
Per Dick's wishes, cremation has taken place.
Graveside services will be held Monday, June 29, at 1 p.m., in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood, with Hurley American Legion Post 58 Chaplain David Aimone officiating.
Full military honors will be accorded by the combined Hurley American Legion Post 58 and Iron County V.F.W. Post 1580 Honor Guard.
Following the interment, luncheon will be served at the ATS Building, 507 Hematite St., in Hurley.
