BESSEMER — A 32-year-old Ironwood man has been arraigned in Gogebic County District Court on a charge of delivery of heroin, causing death.
Martin Henry Brecke, of 114 Flink St., appeared in court in Bessemer, charged in the death of Patrick Mullen, 32, of Iron Belt, Wis., according to the Ironwood Public Safety Department.
The IPSD received a 911 call around 1:55 a.m. Tuesday, saying there was an unresponsive 32-year-old man at 610 E. Oak St.
Mullen had been dropped off there by Brecke, according to the report.
IPSD officers, along with Beacon Ambulance personnel, responded to the request for medical assistance, but couldn’t revive Mullen.
The report said there were two witnesses at the house.
The IPSD said Brecke then fled the scene on foot. His vehicle was impounded and a search warrant that led to his arrest was obtained.
Mullen was pronounced dead at Aspirus Grand View Hospital.
The IPSD was assisted by the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department and the Gogebic-Iron Area Narcotics Team.
An IPSD Wednesday afternoon news release said a conviction on the count carries a penalty of up to life in prison.
The investigation continued and other charges were possible, according to the IPSD.
