PORT LAVACA, Texas - David Karl Brach, 75, of Port Lavaca, passed away on July 7, 2015, after a five-year battle with cancer.
David was born on Aug. 2, 1939, to the late David and Elaine (Novascone) Brach in Bessemer, Mich., and was married to Judith (Hedberg) Brach in Bessemer on Aug. 22, 1959. David was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1959 and served in Korea.
David worked for Verizon for 29 years, starting out as a lineman for General Telephone Co. and advancing to cable splicer, PBX repairman and, finally, a switching technician.
David was an avid motorcycle rider. The longest rides were the 1999 Posse ride from border to border, 2000 from Port Lavaca to Civil War battlefields, and 2001 from Port Lavaca to Western National Monuments. His hobbies included cooking and gardening. David was a Catholic.
David is survived by his wife, Judith; two sons, Michael (Sue) Brach of Inverness, Ill., and Randy Brach of Mechanicsville, Va .; two daughters, Cheryl (Brooks) Morris, Crandall and Tammy Brach, San Diego; 11 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a sister, Marcia (John) Serbin, Milwaukee; and brothers-in-law, Fred (Sheila) Hedberg, Bessemer, and James (Sharon) Hedberg, Minneapolis.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church with Father Tommy Chen officiating. Burial will be in Bessemer.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to OLG Catholic Church, Crown Hospice (hospicefoundation.org) or donor's choice.
