IRONWOOD, Mich. — Gertrude E. Penrose, 88, of Pioneer Park Apartments, Ironwood, died unexpectedly Saturday, Aug. 8, 2015, in her apartment.
She was born Aug. 13, 1926, in Ironwood, daughter of the late August and Tekla (Lepola) Nelmark.
She was married to her husband of 68 years, William F. “Bill” Penrose, on March 2, 1946. He preceded her in death on July 19, 2014.
Surviving are two children, Greta (Michael) Erm, Eagle Harbor, and Bill (Mary) Penrose, Ironwood; grandchildren, Daniel (Lori) Penrose, Hurley, Wis., Luke (Janelle) Penrose, Iron Belt, Wis., and Chelsea (Patrick) Marshall, Georgia; great-grandchildren, Logan Penrose, and David, Gavin, Grant and Savannah Marshall; step great-grandchildren, Kayla Peters, and Alisa, Britney and Mattie BeBeau; a brother, Edwin (Joan) Lepola, Royal Oak; and a sister, Eleanor Upton, Maine.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Erwin Nelmark; and sister, Lillian Niskanen.
Per Gertrude’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no services will be held.
Private interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood.
