WAKEFIELD, Mich. — Viola Mae Brassaw, 100, of Bessemer, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015, at Gogebic Medical Care Facility in Wakefield.
Viola was born May 24, 1915, in Bessemer, the daughter of John and Minnie (Rundle) Oberst. She graduated from Mellen High School in 1932. In 1936, she married Wally Johnson. He preceded her in death. In 1957, Viola married Chester Brassaw; he also preceded her in death. She was employed at Hunters Inn and Sail Inn. She was a former member of the Eagle’s Auxiliary, the VFW Auxiliary and a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Bessemer. Viola especially enjoyed singing and dancing.
She is survived by her special friends and caretakers, Betty, Katherine, Diane, Dora, Vi K. and Vicki; and nieces and nephews.
Besides her two husbands, Viola was preceded in death by her son, Charles “Chucky” Johnson; her four brothers, Ernest, William, Fred and Art; and her sister, Florence Polvin.
A graveside service and inurnment will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 24, 2015, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Bessemer, with Father Antony Lukka officiating.
