BESSEMER - It was a party in Bessemer's Bluff Valley Park Saturday as the park was the site of the annual town picnic, hosted by Marty's Goldenaires.
The day featured a variety of games for both children and adults, including penny pitch, chuck-a-luck, frog races, super-sized beer pong - which features soccer balls and garbage cans - and a corn hole tournament.
There was also the standard summer picnic-fare of burgers, bratwurst, hot dogs, grilled corn and chicken as well as refreshments.
Attendees could also enjoy a bake sale, buy Marty's souvenirs and buy tickets for a number of raffles.
Organizers were pleased with how the day was turning out.
"So far, so good. We've got a real nice crowd, they started coming early ... people seem to be enjoying it," said Chris Wuorinen, the group's picnic chair. "A little breezy at times, but it's not effecting us too much."
The day featured a range of musical groups, including the Favero Brothers, Uncle Fester and a performance by the Goldenaires.
"We have rock band tonight, we have polka today," Wuorinen said, referring to Uncle Fester and the Favero Brothers.
Marty's is a drum and bugle corps with around 55 members ranging from ages 16 to 89 and performs throughout the Upper Peninsula, Wisconsin and northern Minnesota.
