Ironwood — The Ironwood Parks and Recreation Committee recommended approval of a proposed Off-Road Vehicle Motorized Trail route Thursday.

Community Development Director Michael Brown said the committee unanimously approved the proposed route and eliminated a portion of the trail that the Friends of Miners Memorial Heritage Park suggested be removed.

According to a map on the agenda, the approved route starts on the west side, near Silver Street. Brown said it then travels from east to west through city-owned and private property.

Following the committee’s approval, the proposed route will be on the city commission’s agenda for official action on Monday.

In the meantime, Brown said motorized vehicle enthusiast groups are going to have to work with private property owners to obtain easements to establish the route.

When the trail is established, Brown said the route will make traveling more convenient for ORV users.

“It gives them more options for them to get through town and gives them more access so they don’t have to take roads all the time,” he said.

Also on the agenda, Brown said the committee is drafting a plan for Miners Park that’s going to be presented to stakeholders for approval.

The committee’s next meeting is on Oct. 5.
