Bessemer — Bluff Valley Park improvements are almost finished.
During the summer, the city of Bessemer upgraded the park on South Moore Street by replacing outdated equipment.
City manager Mike Uskiewicz said one more piece of exercise equipment is left to be installed, then renovations will be complete.
Uskiewicz said children will notice a new play structure. The $26,000 structure comes with four slides, two climbing areas, two “steering wheels,” Tic-Tac-Toe and a map of the United States for kids to look at and learn.
Surrounding the play structure, the city had wood chips laid out and another play area installed.
At the pavilion, Uskiewicz said handicapped parking was installed and the access way to the restrooms was paved.
Near the pond, Uskiewicz said the trail has been upgraded and the pond has been restocked with fish.
In total, Uskiewicz said the improvements have cost $64,000.
Funding for the park came from a $46,000 Department of Natural Resources grant and local matches.
When it’s done, Uskiewicz said the community will like the park.
“It should be very well received by the public,” he said. “It enhances recreational opportunities.”
