IRONWOOD, Mich. — Robert J. “Bubba” Tregembo, 71, of Ironwood, died peacefully Friday, Oct. 2, 2015, at Aspirus Grand View Hospital in Ironwood, with his family by his side.
He was born March 30, 1944, in Ironwood, son of Wilfred and Rosella (Dalle Ave) Tregembo, and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1962.
He was married to Carol Luoma on June 14, 1969, at Salem Lutheran Church in Ironwood.
Robert was employed by the City of Ironwood in the Fire Department for many years and was the last full time firefighter, retiring in 1993. He also served in the Michigan National Guard for six years. An avid downhill skier, he was ski patrol leader at Big Powderhorn Mountain and Blackjack for many years. He also ran “Smiling Bob’s Garage,” specializing in small engine repair and neighborhood bicycles, was a member of the “Tired Iron” Tractor Club, and enjoyed spending time with Brenda Aili-Angus, working on classic cars and mountain biking.
Surviving are two sons, Daniel (Leann), Ironwood, and Steven (Cara), Chanhassen, Minn .; two grandchildren, Peyton and Josie; a brother, James (Sharon), Los Lunas, N.M .; two sisters, Betty (Dave) Lindberg, Ironwood, and Kathleen (John) Powers, Montevideo, Minn .; a sister-in-law, Jo Benakis (Bob Johnson), Bessemer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Robert was predeceased by his wife, Carol, on Sept. 18, 1999; a sister, Mary Jane Tregembo, in childhood; and brothers-in-law, Jerry Corda and Gus Benakis.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Salem Lutheran Church, 333 E. Aurora St., in Ironwood. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., with Pastor Kurt Kovanen and Rev. Msgr. Peter Oberto co-officiating.
Luncheon will be served in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service.
Committal and interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood.
Pallbearers will be Dave McRae, Jon Berg, Dennis Kellet, Robert Consie, Roger Bennetts and John Powers.
