Wakefield hosts ribbon-cutting ceremony

WAKEFIELD — The city of Wakefield invites the public to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the city’s newly purchased municipal building on Monday at 6:30 p.m.

Wakefield City Manager Margot Anderson said, “100 years after the completion of city hall at 311 Sunday Lake St., the city has moved its new operations, and wishes to formally open the new location.”

From 2014-’15, Anderson said Wakefield leased the building from the Diocese of Marquette and then purchased it in October for $101,899, using general funds.

The Wakefield Municipal Building is at 509 Sunday Lake Street.

Anderson said the former school now contains the offices of the treasurer, clerk, utilities, manager, city council chambers, a large public space, kitchen and storage area.

According to the city of Wakefield, future improvements include reconstruction of the parking lot, automated doors, bathroom and kitchen upgrades, windows and an American Disabilities Act-compliant service counter.

At the ceremony, The Gogebic Range Band will play, and coffee and treats will be served.
