BERGLAND, Mich. - Leo "Roy" Belisle, 82, formerly of Bergland, went to be with Our Lord on Sept. 4, 2015.
He was born on Oct. 16, 1932, in Duluth, Minn., the son of the late Leo and Louise Belisle.
Roy graduated from Bergland High School in 1948. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1952 and served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1956. Roy traveled the country and worked in coal, copper and uranium mines.
Roy loved sports, reading, animals, hunting, hiking, prospecting, fishing and traveling the country. He had a laugh that was infectious. He lived in Michigan, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona and settled in West Virigina with his daughter and her family in 2012.
He is survived by a daughter- and son-in-law, Amy and Robert Karnes, of Tallmansville, West Virginia, and their children, Nathan, Rachel, Elijah Belisle, Emma, Sarah, Seth, Asa and Kemuel Levi. Kemuel was born on Roy's 80th birthday and was his buddy in Roy's last years here on Earth.
Kemmie and "Bumpa" will always be birthday buddies. He is further survived by two sisters, Joyce Paupore, of Kingsford, and Bernadette Hasenberg, of Eagle River, Wis .; nieces and nephews, Marlene Hann, John Olson, Lisa Bosley, Jerry Hasenberg, Mike Hasenberg and Greg Hasenberg; stepchildren, David Larkin, Dawn Seymour and Deanna Larkin; and his former wife, Donna Belisle.
Roy was preceded in death by his stepson, Daniel Larkin; and nephews, Ron and Randy Olson.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 17, at noon (EDT) at Lakeview Cemetery in Bergland. Father Anthony Kalapura will officiate.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Iron Mountain with the arrangements.
