Ironwood - Those driving down Cloverland Drive Wednesday may have noticed work underway demolishing one of the buildings that comprised Davey's Motel.

"It's a new kind of remodeling, called vanishing," joked Sam Davey, who owns the motel at the corner of Cloverland Drive and Greenbush Street.

While the business remains open, the removal of the building marks a shift for Davey toward a focus on long-term rentals.

"We're more or less trying not to be a motel anymore," Davey said. "We're downsizing and we're just going to do extended-stay units for the college and for regular rentals."

Remaining a year-round business, Davey said he plans on renting units for periods ranging from one week to one year.

"(It's) changing gears and going in a different direction," he said, "kind of the same thing, but different."

Regarding plans for the site of the demolished building, Davey said he hopes to turn it into green space, with the possible addition of a picnic table and some benches in the future to make the area look nice.
