SUPERIOR, Wis. - Corrine Violet Bensoni, 87, of Superior, former longtime Hurley resident, died peacefully early Saturday morning, Nov. 7, 2015, at Villa Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center in Superior, with her loving family by her side.
The former Corrine Calgaro was born Nov. 21, 1927, in Hurley, daughter of the late Sylvio and Adelaide (Del Boni) Calgaro. She attended St. Mary's Grade School and graduated from J.E. Murphy High School in Hurley in 1945. She then was employed as cashier and bookkeeper at Lake Superior District Power Co. in Ironwood, Mich. for three years, and later as a housekeeper at the Holiday Inn in Hurley for 10 years.
She married Italo Bensoni on June 5, 1948, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley and enjoyed 57 years of marriage until Italo's passing on Aug. 22, 2005.
Corrine was a member of the ladies Auxiliary to Iron County VFW Post 1580 and St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was honored as "Senior of the Year" in 2005 for continued work with the Iron County Senior Citizens Association. She moved to Superior in 2006 where she became a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Her faith was very important to her and she prayed the rosary daily.
Corrine was proud to be a mom and grandmother. An accomplished seamstress, her pastimes were making ravioli, pizelles, pasties, canning, knitting, crocheting and watching the Packers.
Besides her parents and husband, Corrine was preceded in death by five brothers, Fred, Serafino, William, Romeo and Julio.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Kathy, Las Vegas, and Brian and Cindy, Chandler, Ariz .; two daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Larry McDonald, Superior, and Christine and Greg Cobb, Phoenix; three grandchildren, Scott (Erica) McDonald, Angela (Joe) Swanson and Amy Bensoni; three great-grandchildren, twins Mason and Izabella McDonald and Sophie Swanson; two sisters, Theresa Foryan and Julia Piasecki; two sisters-in-law, Dolores Calgaro and Margaret Rosenberg; many nieces and nephews; and her buddy, Moxie.
Out of respect for Corrine's wishes, cremation has taken place.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Nov. 13, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at St. Mary's Church in Hurley, with the Rev. Frank Kordek OFM, celebrant.
Rite of Committal and interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hurley.
Luncheon will be served in the parish hall upon return from the cemetery.
Urn bearers will be Corrine's grandchildren, Scott, Angela and Amy.
If desired, memorials can be made in Corrine's name to the St. Francis Xavier Food Shelf Fund.
