Ironwood — The public is invited to attend a Wednesday Christmas tree lighting ceremony to kick off the Jack Frost Festival.

The tree lighting will be Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Depot Park.

Attending will be the mayor, commissioners, Luther L. Wright vocal students and chamber of commerce members.

Michael Meyer, chamber director, said after speeches and short songs, the lights on the pine tree north of the park will be activated.

“The Christmas mood is always inspired by the lighting of the Christmas tree,” he said.

Whether there’s snow or not, Meyer said the ceremony will go on. In the past, Meyer said people have been jolly for the festival.

“When there has been snow, people are excited,” he said. “This year, one can only hope that lighting of the Christmas tree will be the trigger that brings snow.”

Following the tree lighting, Meyer said the public is invited to refreshments at the Depot.

On Friday, Dec. 4, the 21st annual Jack Frost Festival of Lights Parade will proceed down Ironwood’s main street. Meyer said this year’s theme honors Chuck Gervasio, who has been involved with the parade for many years as an announcer.

The parade is limited to 50 entries, due by Nov. 27, for free. Parade judges will be located in the window of River Valley Bank.

Charter Communications will again film the parade. Charter will re-broadcast the parade on channel 185 at times and dates to be determined.
