IRONWOOD — Rain turned to snow on a dreary Thanksgiving Day and when it was over, nearly a half inch of precipitation had fallen on Ironwood.
The weather station at the Gogebic-Iron Wastewater Treatment Facility off Cloverland Drive recorded 3.5 inches of snow and .48 inch of precipitation for the 24-hour period to 7 a.m. on Friday.
Plow crews cleared the highways on Thursday, but side roads remained slick with relatively mild temperatures adding to the mix.
Record snowfall for the 24-hour period was 9.5 inches a year ago during a very snowy November.
Although the thermometer dipped into the low 20s overnight, it’s been a warmer than usual month, with an average temperature of 37.6 degrees. The 110-year average for the month through Nov. 27 is 30.6 degrees, according to the National Weather Service office at Marquette.
With only a few days left in November, 5.36 inches of precipitation has been recorded, compared with the long-term average of just 2.46 inches.
