Bessemer — The Gogebic County Board of Commissioners learned Wednesday that a new county prosecutor may be appointed soon by Gov. Rick Snyder.
Richard Adams, who appeared before the board to discuss a pension matter, is retiring Sunday.
“This is my good-bye,” he told the board.
County clerk Gerry Pelissero said Monday is the deadline for attorneys to submit their names for the prosecutor’s job.
The board agreed to reopen the union contract regarding hospitalization, since it recently switched to Blue Cross/Blue Shield.
Board members unanimously agreed to purchase for county employees at a 100 percent rate the Simply Blue Health Reimbursement Account plan with UP Blue. If an employee chooses the more expensive Simply Blue HRA plan instead, he or she will have to pay the difference between the two plans.
In other action, the board approved moving Marietta Appner into the probate register position effective Dec. 21 and to move Stephanie Zaleski, juvenile administrative assistant, to full-time, adding two days a week to her work schedule. That will mean a part-time person will need to be hired for 21 hours per week effective Jan. 1.
Wendy Mesich announced she will retire as probate register on Dec. 18, necessitating the shuffling of employees.
The county board also agreed to hire Bonnie Toskey, of Cohl, Stoker and Toskey, for $8,167 to defend a union grievance filed in the discharge of a former employee in the sheriff’s department.
Toskey defended the county in a similar past case regarding the removal of an employee.
Board members agreed their last regular meeting of the year will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 29, at 4 p.m., rather than the previously scheduled date of Dec. 23 at 5 p.m. The board’s finance committee will meet at 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 29.
