Serving Gogebic, Iron and Ontonagon Counties
The November unemployment rate rose in all but one county, Gogebic, in the western Upper Peninsula.
The Gogebic County rate fell just a tick, from 6.2 percent in October to 6.1 percent in November.
According to the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget, both the civilian labor force and total employment rose by 50 in November.
Total unemployment remained at 400. One year ago, the unemployment rate was 6.7 percent.
Ontonagon County took nearly a full percentage point rise in unemployment in November, from 6.5 percent in October to 7.4 percent. There were 25 fewer people in the civilian labor force in Ontonagon County in November, compared to October. Total employment fell by 50 to 2,200 and total unemployment was up by 25 to 175.
Baraga County rose from 6.5 percent to 6.6 percent.
Keweenaw, with just 1,000 people in the labor force, had 900 employed, 75 unemployed and an unemployment rate of 8.4 percent. The rate a year ago was 9.6 percent.
The rate in the Upper Peninsula of 5.5 percent compared to 5 percent last year at this time but the rate in the U.S. stayed the same at 4.8 percent.
In the U.P., Mackinac County, with the close of tourist season had the highest rate increase in the state from 3.6 percent in October to 10.5 percent in November. A year ago, the rate was 11.8 percent.
The lowest rate was in Marquette at 4.4 percent.
