IRONWOOD, Mich. - W. Keith Carlson, 81, of Ironwood Township, died early Tuesday morning, Dec. 29, 2015, at Westgate Nursing, Rehabilitation and Assisted Living Community in Ironwood, with his family by his side.
Keith was born Aug. 27, 1934, in Ironwood, son of the late Walter and Elsie (Peterson) Carlson, and graduated from A.D. Johnston High School in Bessemer. He then served his country in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict.
Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Ironwood and operated Carlson's Conoco Service Station on Cloverland Drive for many years. He then became a union millwright after the station closed and worked for Mattila Construction Company of Houghton/Hancock throughout the U.P., retiring in 1996.
Keith enjoyed hunting out of his "Lost Acre Camp" and fishing on Lake Superior and the Gile Flowage. He especially enjoyed following his nieces and nephews in all of their sports events.
He was married to the former Nancy Perlberg on Dec. 21, 1957, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Ironwood. She survives.
Also surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Wally and Nancy Perlberg, Summit Lake, Wis .; and numerous special nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Keith was predeceased by three brothers, Herman, Kenneth and Ronald; and three sisters, LaVerne Carlson in childhood, Betty Howard and Donna LaBlonde.
Out of respect for his wishes, cremation has taken place and no services will be held.
