Sharon Lee Schmaus

TUCSON, Ariz. — Sharon Lee Schmaus, 75, of Ontonagon, Mich., passed away peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, at the University of Arizona Medical Center.

Sherry was born June 15, 1940, in Ontonagon, daughter of the late John and Beatrice (Voss) McCarthy. She graduated from Ontonagon High School in 1958. On July 11, 1959, she was united in marriage to George T. Schmaus Jr.

She worked most of her career as a secretary for the Michigan Department of Social Services. She was a fun-loving person who had many friends. Everyone who met her loved her. She felt all people should be treated equal and was a friend to all she met. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends, visiting casinos and her winters in Arizona.

Sherry was preceded in death by her father, John (Jack) McCarthy; mother, Bea McCarthy; and sister, Marilyn Norton.

She is survived by her husband, George; a brother, Robert Schon; daughters, Cindy (Dave) Schmidt and Pam (Dick) Franti; a son, Tim; grandchildren, James Schmidt, Kristen Schmidt, Jason Franti, Michele Franti, Tara Schmaus, TJ Schmaus, Kristina Picotte and Karla Picotte. She also has nine great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial service is being planned for a later date in Ontonagon.
