SHAWNEE, Okla. - Judi Forslund, 62, formerly of Ironwood, Mich., was called to be with her Father in Heaven on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016, in Shawnee.
She was born Judith Eileen Negri on Feb. 21, 1953, at the Divine Infant Hospital in Wakefield, Mich. She was the third child of John D. Negri and Patricia J. (Hemkes) Negri. She attended school in Wakefield and later graduated in June 1971 from Luther L. Wright High School in Ironwood.
Upon her graduation, she began her education in cosmetology at the Academy of Hair Design in Duluth, Minn., graduating in 1972. She received her original license in Minnesota and subsequently held licenses in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Tennessee. She worked in numerous salons and owned/operated salons in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma. She and her family moved to Shawnee in January 1994. At the time of her death, she owned and operated the LaBella Salon in Shawnee.
On Feb. 10, 1973, Judi was married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ironwood to Phillip C. "Phil" Forslund. This February, they would have celebrated their 43rd anniversary. She loved spending time with her family, especially her children, cooking, especially Italian, singing in the church choir, the company of her Bichon, Ricco, and serving her clients - her friends. Also, she cherished the memories from a 2013 trip to Northern Italy where she had the chance to meet all of her father's relatives who still reside there.
She is survived by her husband, Phil, Shawnee; daughter, Alicia D. (Keith) Miller and son, Benjamin R. Forslund, who all reside in Yukon; her mother, Patricia Jacobson, Minocqua, Wis .; brother, John C. Negri, Flint, Mich .; sister, Jayne A. Negri, Nashville, Tenn .; mother-in-law, Vienna Forslund, Ironwood; sisters-in-law, Dianne (Mark) Fiebrink, Naples, Fla., and Judy (Mark) Bledsoe, Aberdeen, S.D .; brothers-in law, Jim Forslund, Tempe, Ariz., and Chris (Brenda) Forslund, Green Bay, Wis .; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and other relatives throughout the US and in Italy; and many, many friends all over the U.S.
She was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Negri and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hemkes; her father, John D. Negri; step-father, Clyde "Jake" Jacobson; father-in-law, Clarence B. Forslund; sister-in-law, Carol (Kehoe) Negri, as well as numerous other relatives.
Funeral services will take place Wednesday, Jan. 27, at 11 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church, E5104 E. Margaret St., in Ironwood, with Pastor Kurt Brandon officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday at the church, and again from 10 a.m until the time of service on Wednesday.
A reception will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.
Committal and interment will be in Sunset Acres Cemetery, Ironwood Township, in the spring.
Pallbearers will be Rick Minkin, Steve Pavlovich, Ron Van Hyfte, Joel Laessig, Robert Bruno and Dennis Sliva.
Honorary pallbearers will be family members who reside in Italy, to include Paolo Mogli, Renzo Bruno Mattiet, Davide Bruno Mattiet, Luca Bruno Mattiet, Enrico Bruno Mattiet and Paolo Di Vita.
In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made in Judi's memory to the Building Fund, Redeemer Lutheran Church, W. Macarthur St., Shawnee, OK, 74804; Trinity Lutheran Church, E5104 E. Margaret St., Ironwood, MI 49938, or to a charity of one's choice.
