Hurley - It was the third annual winter extravaganza at the Gile Park Saturday afternoon.
All proceeds raised from the event benefit the annual Hurley Fireworks every July.
This year, the 2.15 miles snowshoe race was rerouted from on the ice of the Gile Flowage to the woods through Gile Park. There was also a 5k road race for those that did not want to race on snowshoes.
The event started at noon with registration, a bonfire, music and drinks.
Participants that chose to pay the full registration fee also received a winter extravaganza beanie.
The Hurley Fire Department and Hurley Lioness club helped make the event possible, registering racers and manning the bonfire.
There were also events taking place at the Iron County Memorial Building downtown, including a dart tournament, bingo, a spaghetti feed put on by the Penokee 4H Livestock club and live music later in the evening by Brad Emanuel and the White House Players.
The 50/50 raffle was won by Michael Mullen, who donated $100 of his $401 winnings back to the Hurley Fireworks.
It was a great turnout and a fantastic show of support from the community to fundraise for the Hurley fireworks.
Plans are already being made for next year with the addition of something new.
