BESSEMER TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Russell W. "Buster" Mieloszyk, 81, of Anvil Location, Bessemer Township, died peacefully Sunday evening, Feb. 7, 2016, at home, with his family by his side.
He was born July 25, 1934, in Ironwood Township, son of the late Thomas and Maude (Hocking) Mieloszyk, attended Roosevelt School, and graduated from St. Ambrose High School in 1953. He was employed in the Penokee Mine, at Case Tractor, in Racine, Wis., and as a heavy equipment operator at White Pine Copper Co., retiring in 1986. During his years at White Pine, he was also a certified automobile mechanic. He spent six and a half years in the Michigan National Guard, and attended Gogebic Community College for two years, receiving a certificate as a nurse's aide.
An accomplished pilot, Russ loved to fly and enjoyed riding motorcycles, and was a certified charter fishing boat captain on Lake Superior. He also did snowplowing and yard work for friends and neighbors.
On Feb. 14, 1987, he married Wanda Ferrell in Bessemer. She survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Dennis, Russell D., and William, all of Ironwood, and Nick (Ruth), Ironwood Township; a daughter, Terry (Joe) Knaack, Ramsay; stepdaughters, Deborah (Bruce) MacPherson, Ironwood, and Maria Ferrell, Anvil Location; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ralph, Fluorescent, Mo., Norman, Hurley, Wis., and Thomas, Ontonagon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Russ was predeceased by a daughter in infancy; and three brothers, Kenneth, Raymond, and a brother in infancy.
Out of respect for his wishes, cremation has taken place.
A gathering in celebration of Russell's life will be held Friday, Feb. 12, from 5 to 7 p.m., with a time for sharing of memories at 6 p.m., at McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, 305 N. Lowell St., in Ironwood.
Private interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood, in the spring.
