WAUPACA, Wis. — Mary Kapelka, 87, a long-time resident of Montreal, passed away Friday, Feb. 12, 2016, in Waupaca, after a lengthy illness, with her family by her side.
She was born in Wabeno, on Oct. 25, 1928, as Mary Sebero. She moved to Ironwood, Mich., with her mother shortly afterwards. Mary attended St. Ambrose Catholic School in Ironwood. She moved with her mother Margaret (Baron) and step-father Jack Fonteccio in 1942 to Bremmerton, Wash. In 1944, Mary moved to Baraboo, where she met her husband, LeRoy Kapelka. They were married Sept. 29, 1945.
She is survived by her husband, LeRoy Kapelka, resident of MacArthur Hall of the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King; four children, Lewis Kapelka, of Ironwood, Linda (Tom) Clendenning, of Plainfield, Lana (Donald) Sherman, of Nekoosa, and Loren (Bonita) Kapelka, of Custer. Mary is further survived by 18 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and a daughter-in-law, Mary Sebero, of Charlotte, N.C.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Leon “Skip” Sebero; and three grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and interment will be in the mausoleum at Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner. Private family services were held.
