Hurley — After an absence of several years, Career Day is returning to the Hurley K-12 school on Thursday.

Students will hear presentations from experts in many fields.

Staff member Steve Eder said Monday there will be 45-minute presentations and all students in grades 7-12 will participate.

“It gives the professionals a chance to see our building and the students get the chance to visit with them,” Eder said.

The Hurley School Board discussed the plans with Eder and Jake Hostettler, an instructor in the Hurley Northwoods Manufacturing program.

In other business Monday, board members went over some recent test scores with elementary principal Kevin Genisot and Dean of Students Melissa Oja.

There were some concerning scores, such as with the eighth grade math results, and board president Joe Simonich said he expects explanations why students fared so poorly in some areas.

District Administrator Chris Patritto said it was a new form of testing this year, so it’s difficult to compare to other years’ scores.

More data on the test scores will be presented as the administrators have more time to go over the specific results.

In other business Monday, the school board:

— Learned from Eder that a grant has been obtained to cover the travel costs of the golf team.

— Approved Northlakes Dental Services for students, provided the organization continues to work with the Iron County Health Department.

— Went into closed session to accept the resignation of an assistant varsity football coach and girls varsity track coach.
