MERCER, Wis. - Mercer voters cast their ballots Tuesday in a primary to narrow down the field of candidates running for a pair of seats on the town board.

The six-candidate race had incumbent John Sendra facing off against Bill Brundage, James Davis, Gordon Kohegyi, Michael Lambert and Victor Ouimette. The top four vote-getters will advance to the general election, where the two candidates with the most votes will be seated on the town board.

Reported results show Brundage, Lambert, Ouimette and Sendra made the cut Tuesday.

Sendra received the most votes with 231 cast for him, Ouimette's 153 votes put him in second, Lambert got 151 votes for a third-place finish and Brundage came in fourth with 134 votes.

Kohegyi and Davis - the two candidates eliminated from the race - received 101 and 58 votes, respectively.

Mercer election workers said turnout was higher than they expected, with over 450 voters casting ballots as of 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The general election is April 5.
