Ironwood - Over the weekend, Ironwood Public Safety Department received two complaints of building damage from heavy snow or ice.

Weekend rain may have added weight to the snow and ice causing damage to the structures.

The IPSD received a call from Ron Huotari that a building connected to the old Jones Hotel on McLeod Avenue had collapsed and fallen into the alley.

Two IPSD officers responded and they found the alley was impassable because of the fallen debris from the building. The rear portion of the building had collapsed onto the roadway.

Police tape and saw horses were initially placed around the building by officers. The department of public works was then notified and a crew was sent out on Sunday and the alley was reopened by Monday.

The IPSD also received a Saturday complaint about a man who had no electricity in his house because ice had slid off the roof and broke the power mast to the building.

A Gogebic County Sheriff's Department deputy brought the man to IPSD offices and he was given a voucher for two nights' stay in a motel because he had no money to pay for lodging or repairs, the complaint said.
