Evelyn Lucille Cole Anderson

CALUMET, Mich. — Evelyn Lucille Cole Anderson, 101, of Ontonagon, formerly of Maple Plain, Minn., passed away peacefully on Monday, Feb. 29, 2016, at Gardenview Memory Care in Calumet.

Evelyn Anderson was born in Long Lake, Minn., on Feb. 11, 1915. She graduated from Long Lake High School and worked as a telephone operator for several years before marrying Robert Don Anderson. They resided all their married life in Maple Plain, where she was a homemaker, devoted wife, and mother of two sons.

Evelyn loved being outdoors, whether at work or play. She and her husband enjoyed their hobby interests together. She was an avid duck and pheasant hunter, deer hunter, and spent many days fishing on the lakes of Minnesota, Canada and Lake Superior.

Winter days found them snow skiing or hitching the horses to a sleigh for a ride over the fields of their hobby farm — home of “Maple Morgans.” Her number one love was riding, breeding and showing Morgan horses, a hobby that she avidly pursued for more than 30 years, winning many championships showing horses in the Upper Midwest under English Pleasure. She and her husband often joined friends for trail rides in various Upper Midwest states. Evelyn spent the last 25 years between homes in Ontonagon, suburban Minneapolis and San Antonio.

Evelyn is survived by her son, Douglas (Marilyn) Anderson, Ontonagon; grandchildren, David Carl (Margot) Anderson and Michelle (Anthony) Mulcahy; and great-grandchildren, Forest, Lily, David Douglas and Morgan; stepdaughter, Donna (Tay) Kersey, New Brighton; sister, Marion Moll, Waunakee, Wis .; sisters-in-law, Wanita Anderson and Delores Cole, both of Maple Plain, and Charlotte Tripett, Minneapolis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Don Anderson; son, Lowell Anderson; parents, Charles and Helen Cole; and brother, Don Cole.

At the request of the deceased, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Evelyn’s life for family and friends will be scheduled at a later date in Maple Plain.

Memorials may be given to the Aspirus-Ontonagon Hospital Foundation or the First Presbyterian Church of Maple Plain. The family of Evelyn Anderson wishes to extend our sincere gratitude for the loving care of the Gardenview Memory Care staff, Aspirus-Keweenaw Hospice Care staff, and the doctors and nurses of Aspirus-Keweenaw Hospital.
